Abdullah Nimer

Fifty-three-year-old Palestinian immigrant Abdullah Nimer lived in Bell, California with his wife and six children, and made a living as a door-to-door salesman. This profession had been difficult enough prior to 9/11, but afterwards, some potential customers he approached were outright hostile. All he could do, though, was keep at it, and try to let the threats and rancor roll off his back.

This strategy would sadly fail on the afternoon of October 3rd, 2001, when Abdullah was shot dead in the street by a group of men who stopped and confronted him. While investigators initially surmised that the crime was a robbery, as they tended to do in such cases, the fact that nothing was stolen from the victim would seem to indicate that this was yet another hate crime.

In the month following the September 11th terror attacks, there were nearly one-hundred-seventy hate crimes perpetrated against people of Middle Eastern descent in Los Angeles alone, though thankfully, the incidents began to lessen after that time.

There have been no leads and very little progress in the murder of Abdullah Nimer since 2001.
