Alex Blue

Alex Blue

In 2002, it seemed as though forty-one-year-old businessman Alex Blue had it all: he was the part owner of a company that sold cars to the private hire taxi trade, he drove a flashy silver Porsche, and he lived in a relatively swanky Georgian-style flat in the fashionable area of Robroyston, in Glasgow, Scotland.

Clearly, however, all was not as it appeared. At around eight p.m. on the evening of Monday, June 24th, 2002, Alex left a coffee shop and began the short drive back to his home. Shortly after arriving, he was evidently set upon by an assailant or assailants unknown, who viciously stabbed and beat him to within an inch of his life. Hours later, he was found behind his townhouse, lying unconscious in a pool of blood, with head injuries so severe that his own mother did not recognize him when she rushed to the hospital to see him. Alex Blue never regained consciousness and died two days after the attack.

In the days following the brutal murder, details about the victim’s financial situation began to come to light. Although outwardly quite wealthy, Alex had actually filed for bankruptcy three years before and had his debts discharged only two weeks prior to his death.

Further, according to police, Alex had been seen carrying a briefcase on the night of the murder that allegedly contained 30,000 pounds in cash; neither the money nor the case has ever been located.

Alex had written in his diary that he was due to meet someone known as D. Hobbs on the night he was killed, and witnesses reported that they thought they heard two men arguing from inside the house on the night of June 24th. Neighbors also claimed to have seen a black BMW near Alex’s home at around quarter to eleven on the same evening.

Alex’s brother Billy asserted that Alex Blue was the victim of a targeted hit that was carried out by three perpetrators, and he even implied that he knew the identity of the killers, but authorities have not commented on the accuracy of this information.

In 2002, the twentieth anniversary of the crime, police made a renewed push to solve the case, but as of this writing, no arrests have been made.
