On the evening of November 2nd, 2002, fifteen-year-old Steven Miinster received a phone call from an unknown female at the home in Oxnard, California he shared with his mother Maria. The caller asked Steven to meet her outside his house at B Street and Bryce Canyon Avenue.
Steven left his house at around eleven p.m. and walked around the corner, at which point he was shot by an unseen assailant.
The teenager was not killed outright; his mother found him bleeding and clinging to life on the sidewalk. Though Steven was rushed to the hospital, he later died from his injuries.
According to Maria Miinster, Steven was not involved with any gangs, though there was evidently substantial gang activity in the surrounding neighborhood. Steven’s mother speculated that her son was “in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
In 2014, police announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or people responsible for the death of Steven Miinster, but as of this writing, the teenager’s seemingly random murder remains unsolved.
