At around nine p.m. on the night of November 2nd, 1990, seventy-three-year-old grandmother Janie Perrin was seen by neighbors walking back to her flat on Tarcoon Street in the town of Bourke, in New South Wales, Australia. The elderly woman lived alone.
At some point after this sighting, Janie was attacked in her home by one or more male perpetrators. She was sexually assaulted and bludgeoned to death, after which the killers stole several items from the flat and vanished into the night.
Janie’s neighbors became concerned when they didn’t see her the following day, and upon entering her home, police found the victim’s remains. Though hundreds of witnesses and persons of interest have been questioned, the crime remains unsolved. The New South Wales Police Force are still offering a $100,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the conviction of the murderer or murderers of Janie Perrin.
