Atlantic County Jane Doe

Atlantic County Jane Doe

In the winter of 1971, three hunters in Galloway Township, New Jersey would stumble across a murdered young woman whose identity is still unknown.

The skeleton, found on December 6th in the woods off the Garden State Parkway, appeared to be that of a petite, auburn-haired female between the ages of twelve and eighteen years old, though probably closer to the lower end of the age range. An autopsy suggested that she had died by strangulation several months earlier.

She was dressed in blue, orange, and white-striped bell-bottom pants, a blue shirt, and brown sandals. She also wore a wide leather bracelet that had a small Westclock watch attached to it through brass eyelets. In one of her trouser pockets, investigators found a key to a room at a nearby motel.

Other physical characteristics included an extra sacral vertebrae, a set of nearly perfect teeth, and the presence of auburn dye in her naturally brown hair.

A facial reconstruction of the girl was duly produced, and a thorough vetting of missing persons cases in the area was performed, leading to several possible candidates being eliminated. As of this writing, the young woman is still unidentified, and referred to only as Atlantic County Jane Doe.
