Judy Lord

Judy Lord

Twenty-two-year-old Judy Lord lived in an apartment in Concord, New Hampshire with her seventeen-month-old son. On the evening of May 19th, 1975, Judy was in the crowd that had gathered to watch a volleyball game taking place in the common area of her apartment complex. She reportedly returned to her home at approximately ten-thirty p.m.

Shortly past noon the following day, Judy Lord was found dead in her own apartment. She had been raped and suffocated. Her son was unharmed.

Authorities spent the next forty-eight hours interviewing friends and neighbors, and scouring the apartment for clues, but few were forthcoming. For a time, police suspected that Judy’s ex-husband might have been responsible, but that line of inquiry seems to have gone nowhere.

A more promising lead emerged in the form of a neighbor named Earnest Stanberry, who some other residents claimed had been harassing Judy. Indeed, his fingerprints and a few strands of his hair were recovered from Judy’s apartment, though investigators were not sure if he had been in Judy’s apartment at her request on prior occasions.

According to most sources, Stanberry was himself murdered in 1987 in California, having never been charged with the killing of Judy Lord. Her death remains unresolved.
