Theresa Allore

Theresa Allore

Nineteen-year-old Theresa Allore was a college student at Champlain College Lennoxville, Quebec, Canada, and lived in a dorm about fifteen minutes away, in Compton.

She was last seen alive on campus on November 3rd, 1978, but subsequently disappeared. For five long months, her family and the police could find no trace of her, but then, on April 13th, 1979, her body was found in a pond a little more than half a mile from her dorm. She was clad only in her underwear, and her cause of death was unclear.

Authorities initially believed Theresa was a runaway who had died of a drug overdose, but the Allore family was certain she had been murdered. They happened to be friends with an investigative journalist named Patricia Pearson, who delved into the case and wrote a number of articles for the National Post newspaper laying out the evidence. Through her efforts, and those of Theresa’s brother John Allore, a disturbing theory began to emerge that Theresa had perhaps been only one of many victims of a serial predator operating in Quebec between the years of 1971 and 1981.

At last, in 2004, the Quebec police established a cold case unit to look into links between the death of Theresa Allore and dozens of other possibly related victims, and Montreal soon followed suit, largely due to John Allore’s successful lobbying. John Allore and Patricia Pearson also published a book about the case in 2020 called Wish You Were Here, and though the crime remains unsolved, they hope their valiant efforts will one day bring Theresa’s killer to justice.
