Twenty-year-old Anne Roberts had just returned to her home in the suburb of Black Forest from a night out in nearby Adelaide, South Australia. It was September 16th, 1979.

At some point after she entered her flat, she was attacked by an unknown assailant, who either forced his way in or was already there, lying in wait. He viciously raped her, then bludgeoned her to death with a brick from the apartment complex’s parking lot. The killer returned the brick to the lot as he fled the scene.

Police had few leads, and surmised that the crime was likely random and spontaneous. It remains unsolved after more than forty years, and $20,000 is still on offer for anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
