David Lawrence

David Lawrence

Five-year-old David Lawrence lived with his parents, Joyce and George, in a block of flats on Manciple Street in Southwark, south London. On the afternoon of March 8th, 1968, the child had gone shopping with his aunt, and then, after returning home, headed over to play on the swings at Tabard Gardens, a small park across from the building where he lived. He was last seen alive at the playground by a neighbor at approximately three-forty p.m.

Later that night, a groundskeeper found the boy’s body in the public toilets at Tabard Gardens. His cause of death was variously listed as multiple stab wounds to the back, battering, or suffocation.

Though Scotland Yard was purportedly investigating the case, the files on it are still sealed, and will not be released to the public until 2066. No arrests were ever made in the baffling murder of the five-year-old.
