It was mid-October of 2001, and forty-three-year-old Brian Metcalfe had spent the evening in some of the pubs around Wath, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. His movements between Friday, October 12th, and Sunday, October 14th are not known. What is certain was that his body was found under a bridge on Station Road in Wath on October 14th. He had been beaten to death.
Police stated that Brian was a well-known figure in his community, and asked the public for help in tracking the victim’s movements in the days before he died. It was possible Brian could have been slain at any point between Friday night and Sunday, when his remains were discovered.
Several arrests were made in connection with the crime, but no charges were ever brought, and the motive for the murder is still a mystery.
A new appeal for information was made in 2021, but since that time, there have been no further updates. The victim’s family still hold out hope that the brutal crime can be solved.
