Seventeen-year-old Caroline (or Carolyn) Allen had been at a babysitting job in Bramcote, Nottinghamshire, England on April 10th, 1974. She was planning to catch a bus for the fifteen-minute ride back to her home in Kinoulton, but somewhere along the route, she completely vanished.
For more than a year, her fate was unknown, but then, in December of 1975, her skeletal remains were discovered in a copse of trees in the rural area of Old Dalby, Leicestershire. The location where her body was found lay about thirteen miles from where she was last seen. Forensic examiners were unable to determine the cause of death but believed she may have been bludgeoned in the head.
As in the previously discussed case of Rosina Hilliard, there is a theory that Caroline Allen was also a victim of Peter Sutcliffe, the serial killer known as the Yorkshire Ripper. However, no evidence has emerged linking him to the crime, and the murder remains unsolved.
