Nora Wilfred

Thirty-three-year-old mother of four Nora Wilfred was originally from Risca, Wales, and had recently fallen on hard times, regularly traveling the fifteen miles into the capital city of Cardiff to make her living as a sex worker.

On December 4th, 1972, Nora was looking for business in the Docks area when something horrible befell her. A short time later, her body was discovered on waste ground off Pugsley Lane, Herbert Street. She had been stabbed twenty times in what authorities termed a “frenzied attack.” Her coat, boots, and purse were all missing and were never recovered.

The investigation was hampered severely by the fact that the day Nora was murdered was the same day as the Wales vs. New Zealand rugby international game, meaning that the city was packed with people, many of whom were from out of town.

Police took over a thousand statements and did numerous house-to-house searches to try and track down the young woman’s killer, but it was all to no avail. The murder of Nora Wilfred is now more than fifty years in the past and remains unsolved to this day.
