Forty-nine-year-old Michael Boothe was an actor who had been working in show business for three decades. He had appeared in multiple theater productions in the West End in London, and had also turned up in the TV series General Hospital, as well as the 1972 Alfred Hitchcock film Frenzy.
But on the evening of Sunday, April 29th, 1990, Michael was found slumped and bleeding outside the public restrooms in Elthorne Park, Hanwell, West London. According to witnesses, he had been attacked and savagely beaten by a gang of teenagers. Michael was taken to the nearby New Ealing Hospital but died of his injuries a few hours later.
Because the area where he was assaulted was a known meet-up spot for gay men, police asked members of the local gay community to help them in their investigation, as it was assumed that Michael’s murder had been a hate crime. Authorities eventually arrested seven young men for questioning in connection with the homicide, but all were subsequently released without charge.
The murder of Michael Boothe remains unsolved.
