Sixteen-year-old Kevin Hicks was described as a happy-go-lucky teenager who liked school and lived with his parents in Addiscombe, Croydon, London, England. March 2nd, 1986 was a normal day like any other, which Kevin spent with his family.
At about eight-thirty p.m., though, Kevin told his parents that he needed to go buy some eggs for a test in his home economics class the following day. He set out for a shop called Sperrings, which was only a few minutes’ walk from his home.
At ten p.m., Kevin was seen by a witness, walking along nearby Shirley Road in the general direction of his house. However, this was the last sighting of him; at some time after that point, the teenager completely vanished.
A thorough search turned up no sign of him, and investigators were completely mystified at what might have befallen the boy. The case went nowhere for ten years, but then, a few days before Halloween of 1996, an anonymous person called the offices of the Croydon Advertiser and claimed to know where Kevin’s body was. This individual never divulged this information and was never able to be tracked down.
Sadly, both Kevin’s parents passed away before they ever found out what had happened to their son. The case was reviewed in 2016, at which point authorities stated they believe Kevin Hicks was murdered and his body disposed of in an unknown location. A £20,000 reward is on offer for information leading to the discovery of the killer or killers, but as of May 2024, the slaying of Kevin Hicks remains unsolved.
