Leslie Guntrip

Seventy-two-year-old Leslie Guntrip was retired and lived alone at the isolated Bradford Mill Farm near Winsford, Cheshire, England.

On the morning of February 15th, 1978, a bread delivery man discovered Leslie’s lifeless body slumped in a chair in front of the TV in his living room. The chair and floor around him were covered in blood. Forensic examination determined that the victim had been beaten multiple times in the head.

Although police surmised that robbery was the possible motive, the only thing taken from the scene was a 12-bore shotgun. Cash and other valuables were left undisturbed.

Despite a house-to-house canvass of the area and a thorough investigation, the case went cold fairly quickly, with no suspects and no clear motive.

Years later, in 1997, authorities believed they’d uncovered a lead when an old shotgun wrapped in a plastic bag was unearthed near Barton Stadium during construction. This weapon was later found to have no connection to the case, however.

As of this writing in May of 2024, the brutal slaying of Leslie Guntrip remains unsolved.
