It was around Christmastime of 1978 in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. Seventeen-year-old Walter Taylor had been for a night out to celebrate and was presumably walking home across the Jubilee Playing Fields in Ashby, a nearby suburb. At some point during his journey, however, he was attacked by an unknown assailant.
Walter was found dead sometime later, having been beaten in the head with a plank of wood. The motive for the slaying was not clear.
Humberside police conducted thousands of interviews and took statements from multiple witnesses, but tragically, whoever beat Walter Taylor to death in late December of 1978 is still unidentified.
In 2012, Walter’s sister Patricia made a renewed plea in the media to try and solve the cold case, and though authorities stated that the investigation remained under review and “never forgotten,” there have been no further updates since then.
