Kevin Clark

Twenty-two-year-old Kevin Clark lived alone in the Cambuslang area of Glasgow, Scotland, and was well known in the vicinity. In early 2003, he was unemployed and was struggling with a drug addiction.

At around ten-thirty on the morning of January 18th, Kevin was found lying dead on Myreside Road in a derelict part of Carntyne. He had been shot in the back and had a large slash across his head.

Later investigation demonstrated that Kevin had last been seen alive at two-fifteen a.m., approximately eight hours prior to his body being found. His movements after that were completely unknown.

About a year later, police began to suspect that a father and son, James and Jamie Campbell (aged forty-five and twenty-four at the time, respectively), may have had something to do with the murder of Kevin Clark. Authorities bugged both men’s homes to try and get incriminating evidence against the pair.

On the tapes, Jamie Campbell did indeed mention something about shooting Kevin Clark, and James Campbell claimed he had cut up the clothing that Kevin had been wearing at the time of his murder. The Campbells were arrested.

At their trial, however, both individuals stated that they had suspected their phones were bugged, and therefore decided to prank the listening investigators by confessing to the murder. “It was a joke, a wind-up. We were pulling their chains by saying stupid things,” Jamie Campbell said on the stand.

The trial lasted for a week, and the jury ultimately found Jamie Campbell not guilty. The verdict against his father James was not proven. Both men were released, as the only evidence against them was their confession, which was obtained through covert eavesdropping.

The slaying of Kevin Clark, then, is still unsolved as of July 2024.
