Revelle Balmain

Revelle Balmain

Twenty-two-year-old Revelle Balmain was a model and a dancer in Sydney, Australia, who also worked as an escort on the side to cover her bills. In late 1994, she was planning to set out on a six-week tour of Japanese cabarets, working as a hostess; it was a gig she’d done several times before.

On November 5th, 1994, Revelle had been scheduled to meet her mother for lunch, but she failed to arrive at Newcastle Station as expected. Later on that day, she had a meeting with a client at four p.m., which was supposed to run for two hours. After this appointment was over, she had agreed to meet her friend Kate Brentnall for drinks.

It would seem that Revelle kept her appointment with her client, as she phoned Kate at around seven-fifteen p.m. to say that she was just now leaving his company and that they should meet at the Royal Hotel in the upscale suburb of Paddington. Kate waited for her at the hotel, but she never showed up.

The next day, Revelle’s keys, appointment book, make-up, credit cards, and shoes were discovered scattered over several streets in Kingsford, but of Revelle herself, there was no sign.

Police immediately located Revelle’s last client and interviewed him extensively. He claimed he had dropped Revelle off in front of the Red Tomato Inn at seven p.m. and didn’t see her again after that. It was unclear why his initial two-hour appointment had run to three hours, but after the interrogation, authorities could find no solid cause to charge him with any wrongdoing.

Later, Revelle’s passport and her plane ticket to Japan were found somewhere in the vicinity of her last client’s home, which led investigators to suspect that she had been killed at his residence and her body concealed elsewhere. Despite their suspicions, however, there was still inadequate evidence to take the unnamed man into custody.

Revelle Balmain has never been found but is presumed to have been murdered. There is currently a $1,000,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of her killer.
