Nineteen-year-old Jerome Vassell was the father of one young child and was described by family members as loving, charming, intelligent, and energetic.
On the evening of Friday, October 27th, 2006, Jerome was sitting in his car in the parking lot of the West Indian Cultural Centre on Clarendon Road in the Haringey borough of London, England. Several events were happening at the center that night, and hundreds of people were coming and going.
At around one a.m. on October 28th, Jerome was shot in the head as he sat in his parked car. Witness accounts suggested he may have gotten into an argument with several black men in the parking lot, and that one of them may have shot him.
Jerome initially survived the shooting but spent the ensuing five months in the hospital. He was released in March of 2007, suffering from partial paralysis, brain damage, and communication issues.
Sadly, Jerome never made a full recovery from his grievous injuries, and in December of 2007, he collapsed in his home in Tottenham and passed away. Authorities then opened a murder investigation.
Police are offering a £20,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of his killers, and especially wish to speak with anyone who attended any of the events at the West Indian Cultural Centre on the night Jerome was shot.
As of July 2024, however, there has been no progress in the case, and the murder remains unsolved.
