Clare Brown

Clare Brown

Twenty-five-year-old Clare Brown was a full-time mother who was taking a business studies course on the side in order to improve her career options. Her son Callum lived with his grandmother much of the time, while her daughter Chloe, who was four, lived with her. According to Chloe, she and her mother had been “inseparable.”

On March 9th, 2008, the little girl had been staying with a babysitter, but after a while, Clare’s family became concerned when she never contacted anyone or picked her child up at the appointed time. Clare’s brother went to her home on Exford Close in Miles Platting, Manchester, and to his horror, found Clare strangled to death in her bedroom.

There seemed no motive for the brutal crime, though Clare’s ex-boyfriend Stuart Lawrie eventually stood trial for the murder in November of 2008. He was subsequently acquitted.

Since then, there have been no further developments in the heartbreaking case. In 2015, Clare’s then-twelve-year-old daughter Chloe made a plea in the media for information about her mother’s slaying, but as of July 2024, the homicide is still unsolved.
