Sharon Lynch

Sharon Lynch was a twenty-two-year-old mother of one, living in Liverpool, England. She disappeared at some point in late October of 1997.

On November 27th of the same year, a drug addict stumbled upon her nude, partially decomposed remains, lying in a derelict warehouse in the Liverpool city center. She had been beaten and strangled before being thrown in a hole. The body was estimated to have been there for approximately four weeks.

In 1998, a thirty-five-year-old homeless man named John Flanagan was arrested and tried for the crime after he confessed to it on tape to another homeless man who was working with the police. Despite his immediate retraction of the confession, Flanagan was convicted of the murder and sent to prison.

In 2005, though, his conviction was overturned since it was determined that John Flanagan was a particularly vulnerable individual who was prone to making false statements.

After Flanagan was released, authorities considered reopening the investigation, but as there was no new evidence to examine, the case was left to lie on file, and there have been no new developments since that time.
