Anthony Littler

Forty-five-year-old Anthony Littler was an executive officer at Customs and Excise in East Finchley, London. He was described as a gentle man with no enemies, who lived alone and largely kept to himself.

At a little past midnight on May 1st, 1984, Anthony was returning home from a night out in the city center and had just left the East Finchley tube station; he only lived a short walk away. Suddenly, however, he was attacked by an unknown individual or individuals.

Shortly afterward, the victim’s body was discovered in a pool of blood, situated in a darkened alley near the tube station locally known as The Causeway. He had been bludgeoned in the head. The motive for the murder was unclear, as Anthony had not been robbed.

There were no witnesses to the savage crime, and the anonymous person who had phoned to report the body could never be identified, despite law enforcement’s efforts to track him down.

During the investigation, it was found that on April 29th, a man walked into the Galleon Wine Store near the tube station and told the shop’s proprietor that he had been attacked by two men with baseball bats on the previous night. This individual, who was described as about six feet tall with a medium build and short brown hair, had significant injuries to his face and head. This man was likewise never found.

The case lay fallow for decades until late 2023 when authorities announced that two unnamed men, aged fifty-four and fifty-eight, had been arrested in connection with the murder. Both of them were re-bailed until January and April, but then, in March of 2024, two more men were arrested, aged fifty-six and fifty-seven.

As of this writing in September of 2024, there have been no further updates, and the seemingly random slaying of Anthony Littler is still officially unsolved.
