Julie Perigo

Fifty-one-year-old mother of two Julie Perigo lived in a one-bedroom council flat in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England. She had formerly been a stripper, but by 1986, was making her living as a sex worker.

On May 16th, 1986, she told a friend that she was scheduled to meet a client at lunchtime. This was the last time anyone but her killer saw her alive.

On May 23rd, her concerned sister phoned the police after not being able to get in touch with Julie for an entire week. Authorities forced their way into Julie’s flat, and discovered a scene of shocking carnage; Julie had been stabbed multiple times, her body mutilated. Blood spattered the walls of the small residence.

Julie kept meticulous diaries of all her clients, who hailed from all across the UK, and investigators began poring through them in the hopes of tracking down the culprit. During the inquiry, they interviewed over six thousand people and even made a few arrests, but no charges were ever laid, and the case soon went cold.

Advances in DNA testing gave the investigation a renewed push in 2002, but sadly, even this new evidence led nowhere.

As recently as 2021, police confirmed the case was still open, but as of this writing in September of 2024, the brutal murder of Julie Perigo is still unsolved.
