Carol Baldwin

On March 26th, 1988, thirteen-year-old Carol Baldwin was walking to a friend’s house across a park near her home in Northampton, England. At some point on her journey, she was stabbed in the back and left for dead.

Later that year, a twelve-year-old girl was arrested for the murder and placed on trial. The prosecution claimed that although the girl didn’t know Carol, she had become enraged and attacked when Carol had called her a name.

However, the accused girl asserted that she had given a false confession to police because she was frightened, and that she was actually nowhere near the park when the slaying occurred. According to her and several witnesses, she had been elsewhere, drinking, taking drugs, and having sex with a group of older friends. As there was no solid evidence linking the girl directly to the murder, she was eventually acquitted.

As of this writing in September 2024, the murder of Carol Baldwin remains unsolved.
