Barbara Pinder

Seventy-six-year-old Barbara Pinder was a professional piano player of some renown, having worked with many famous figures in her youth, including Welsh actor, singer, and composer Ivor Novello. In the early 1980s, she was retired and lived alone in a flat on Prince of Wales Drive in Battersea, London.

On October 28th, 1984, an unknown assailant entered Barbara’s home and brutally attacked her, stabbing her nearly four dozen times with a stiletto knife and beating her in the face so hard that her jaw was broken, as well as some bones in her neck.

As there was no sign of forced entry and Barbara still had her walking shoes on, indicating she had only just entered the flat, police suspected that her killer had likely followed her inside.

As there was no sign of robbery or sexual assault, the motive behind the vicious murder was a complete mystery.

In 1990, a man named David Pimlico was arrested and eventually convicted of the crime after he confessed to it; he was charged with manslaughter due to diminished responsibility. However, it was later determined that Pimlico had a habit of confessing to crimes he hadn’t committed; his conviction was deemed unsafe and he was released, as there was no evidence he had murdered Barbara other than his confession.

Since then, the case has remained unsolved, and the person who stabbed and beat Barbara Pinder to death is still unidentified.
