Shona Stevens

Thirty-one-year-old Shona Stevens lived in Irvine, North Ayrshire, Scotland with her mother and seven-year-old sister. On November 10th, 1994, she went out to the Bourtreehill Shopping Centre, and began walking toward home at a little past one in the afternoon. Sadly, she never made it there.

While Shona traveled along a path between Towerlands Farm Road and Middleton Park, she was set upon by an unknown assailant, who beat her savagely about the head with a hammer before fleeing the scene.

Shona was still alive when she was discovered only about two-hundred yards from her home. She was airlifted to Southern General Hospital in Glasgow, but never regained consciousness and died three days later.

Police had no idea what the motive for the murder could possibly be, and little clue who had perpetrated it. They suspected the killer was a local, as the path Shona was attacked on was not well-known to outsiders, but beyond that, they were at a complete loss.

Three men who had been seen in the area on the afternoon of the crime were sought for questioning as suspects or potential witnesses, but none was ever identified.

Many years later, in 2021, authorities released photographs of a small toy found at the scene, hoping that someone would recognize it. The item was a little more than a quarter inch long and portrayed a partially nude, pig-like man with a red coat and no pants. It was believed to have broken off a keyring.

Since then, there have been no further updates on the case, and the brutal slaying of Shona Stevens remains unsolved.
