Forty-nine-year-old Jill Williams lived in a flat on Ribblesdale Road in Tooting, South West London. She was known to have a love of gold jewelry and often wore a great deal of it, though whether this ultimately contributed to her fate is not known for certain.
On June 22nd, 1996, Jill was found dead in her flat. She had been tied up with her own leggings, then beaten and asphyxiated to death. Her home had also been robbed.
Two men were arrested for the crime and placed on trial, but one was acquitted, and the other was released after the jury failed to reach a verdict. Although the acquitted man claimed to have had an alibi for the time of the slaying, his fingerprint was found on a pawn ticket inside the safe in Jill’s flat.
After the release of the two suspects, the case went cold, and as of this writing in October of 2024, the crime remains officially unsolved.
