Norma Jordan

Forty-one-year-old Norma Jordan was divorced and had recently moved to a block of flats called Pioneer House in Birmingham, England. Early in 1991, she had been working at an old folks home and taking classes to further her career in this capacity.

On July 3rd of that year, though, her stepmother and sister dropped by her fifth-floor flat to visit her and found her dead on her bedroom floor. She had been beaten savagely about the head during what appeared to be a fierce struggle, and according to a post-mortem examination, had likely been lying there for about a week before she was found.

Initially, police believed that Norma had been killed by an intruder in the course of a robbery, as the lock on the front door was non-functional. Still, it came to light that the gas company had actually forced their way inside about a month prior because they suspected a leak. The lock had not yet been replaced.

As Norma was quite socially popular and had no shortage of boyfriends both past and present, authorities then began combing through her romantic history in Birmingham and in the cities she’d formerly lived to see if there was anyone who might have wished her harm. Investigators also questioned all of the other residents of Pioneer House, but no one seemed to have any pertinent information.

The tower block was torn down in 1999, by which time the case had gone ice cold. As of this writing in November 2024, the murder of Norma Jordan is still unsolved.
