Seventy-three-year-old Frederick Barnett lived on Hopewell Road in Hull, England, and around the neighborhood, he was well-known for selling black market cigarettes and tobacco.
On December 29th, 1995, he was found murdered in the kitchen of his home. He had been severely beaten in the head with a blunt instrument before being stabbed multiple times. His throat had also been cut, most likely with a regular kitchen knife.
Though four men would ultimately be convicted of the crime, their convictions would be overturned in 1998. By that time, one of the men, Michael Beadle, had already died in prison.
After the remaining men were released, the case went cold, and as of this writing in November 2024, the murder of Frederick Barnett remains unsolved.
