Eighteen-year-old Shehzad Iqbal was an A-level student at St Mary’s College in Blackburn, England, and an avid cricket player. On the afternoon of November 27th, 1995, he was riding in a car when he reportedly saw an altercation taking place on a street corner near his school. He got out of the car to intervene and was subsequently stabbed in the stomach.
Shehzad managed to get back to the car, and the driver sped toward the nearest hospital, but sadly, the victim died before arriving there.
Londoner Rashid Mankda was arrested and charged with the murder, but because his solicitor was deemed incompetent, he was acquitted. The Home Secretary at the time, Jack Straw, promised to look into the case on behalf of Shehzad’s grieving family, but his efforts do not appear to have yielded any results.
The slaying of Shehzad Iqbal remains unsolved as of this writing in December 2024.
