David Ferguson

Nineteen-year-old David Ferguson lived in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, and worked as a trainee at a car restoration shop.

On October 15th, 1999, he was found dead on a footpath near Calder Road. He had been hacked more than two dozen times with a machete. Authorities speculated that the murderer had somehow lured David to the spot before butchering him.

In 2002, a notorious gangland killer by the name of Garry Smith was arrested and placed on trial for the crime, but the case fell apart when no one would testify against him.

In 2012, though, Smith was convicted of another murder and received an eighteen-year sentence. Police continued to pursue the case against him for the David Ferguson slaying, but due to a lack of cooperation from potential witnesses, they ultimately decided to close the case in 2017.

The brutal murder, then, stands as officially unsolved.
