Alphonso Madden

Twenty-seven-year-old Alphonso Madden was the father of an eight-year-old daughter and lived in Burnage, Manchester, England.

On August 14th, 2001, Alphonso was driving home after visiting relatives in Longsight when a gunman on the side of Northmoor Road suddenly opened fire on his Nissan Bluebird. The victim’s car subsequently crashed into an emergency bollard. When authorities arrived, they discovered that Alphonso had suffered a gunshot wound to his chest, and he was rushed to the hospital. Despite attempts to save him, he died of his injuries shortly afterward.

Police noted that whoever the killer had been, he was clearly unconcerned about who his bullets hit, as there was a nearby park where children were playing, who could have easily been caught in the crossfire. It was also reported that though there were many potential witnesses to the crime, investigators were finding it difficult to get anyone to come forward, perhaps out of fear.

Neither the motive for the murder nor the identity of the shooter has been established, and the seemingly random slaying of Alphonso Madden remains unsolved nearly a quarter century later.
