Martin Simpson

Fifty-nine-year-old father of four Martin Simpson was a well-liked individual around Leicester, England, often seen in local pubs and betting shops. He was, in fact, making the rounds on the night of November 22nd, 2003, first stopping by the Yates Wine Bar on Belvoir Street, then moving on to the Last Plantagenet pub on Granby Street. He was later seen at a High Street pub, the High Cross, and after leaving there, his friends reported that he was planning to visit his sick mother. Sadly, he never made it there.

At around two-thirty a.m. on November 23rd, Martin was found lying unconscious on Albion Street, suffering from severe head injuries.

He was taken to the nearest hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. An autopsy revealed bruising around his eyes and a fractured skull, leading police to assume he had been assaulted.

During the investigation, dubbed Operation Dice, police released CCTV footage showing a young man, possibly a student, walking near the area where Martin was discovered. It was believed this man might have information pertaining to the case, but he has never been located.

A number of arrests were made, but no one was ever charged with the crime, and as of December 2024, the murder of Martin Simpson is still unsolved.
