London resident Symon Simson was a forty-one-year-old man who tended to keep to himself, working at his brother’s grocery store and indulging in his passion for cars in his down time. According to everyone who knew him, he had no enemies.
On May 4th, 2000, Symon had just left work, locking up the shop at around ten p.m. He was walking toward his car, a distinctive blue Ford Capri, parked near the intersection of Salisbury Road and Green Lanes. At some point along this brief path, he was attacked by an individual or individuals unknown.
After the assault, he managed to make it to Salisbury Mews behind the shop, where he collapsed. He was found by a passerby at ten-thirty and subsequently rushed to North Middlesex Hospital with serious head injuries. Though he regained consciousness somewhat, he never recovered from the beating and died on May 17th.
Investigators noted that the driver’s side door of Symon’s car was found ajar after the attack. They also pointed out that the day of the crime was the same day as the London mayoral election, though they were unsure whether there was a connection.
Neither the motive nor the killer of Symon Simson has been identified.
