Justin Littleton and William Pugh

At around one o’clock on the morning of January 9th, 2000, nineteen-year-old Justin Littleton and sixteen-year-old William Pugh left Justin’s home in Lakewood, Washington. Their destination was unknown.

A little more than an hour later, at around two-fifteen, both teenagers were shot dead on the sidewalk in front of the Hidden Lake apartment complex on 110th Street SW. The site where they were killed was only about three blocks from Justin’s residence.

Though no weapon was found, police recovered several spent shell casings from the scene and were able to identify a possible suspect. However, there was insufficient evidence for an arrest. Several apartment residents reported hearing gunshots, but none of them had seen anything.

The manager of the Hidden Lake Apartments stated that teenagers often cut through the complex on the way to and from the high school, although she had asked them not to do so. Though she told authorities she thought she had seen Justin Littleton walking through the area before, she didn’t really know either victim and claimed that neither of them had ever lived there or knew anyone who did, to the best of her knowledge.

The motive for the shooting as well as the identity of the perpetrator are still unknown.
