Alfred Gebauer

Alfred Gebauer was born in Leipzig, Germany, but fled with his family to the United States in the 1940s to escape the Nazis. Eventually, he, his wife Gerda, and their children settled in Akron, Ohio. Alfred worked for four decades at a tool and die company and spent his free time building beautiful architectural details by hand inside his home and designing elegant gardens in the yard.

On April 8th, 2000, when Alfred was eighty-two years old, an unknown intruder broke into the Gebauer house on Oviatt Place and assaulted the elderly man in the course of a robbery. Alfred was rushed to the hospital, where he was able to give an account of the events to the police, though he was unable to provide a detailed description of his attacker.

Sadly, on April 14th, he succumbed to his injuries, and authorities were now dealing with a murder investigation. But in the twenty-five years since the incident, it appears there has been little movement in the case.
