Thirty-five-year-old Laura Elena Morales lived on Doverwood Drive in Riverside, California with her husband and children. On July 23rd, 2000, her family had gone out for the day, leaving her in the house alone. When they returned at five p.m., they were horrified to find Laura dead of some undisclosed, homicidal trauma inside the home.
Not long into the investigation, authorities began exploring a link between Laura’s murder and a sexual assault that had taken place on August 10th, 1999, only a mile away from the Morales residence.
In that case, the suspect was described as a chubby Hispanic male in his mid-twenties, standing about five-foot-nine, with black hair and brown eyes. Though a composite sketch of this individual was released to the public, it did little to further either the rape case or the Laura Morales murder inquiry.
Despite their efforts, detectives were unable to nail down any significant leads, and the crime is still unsolved to this day.
