James John Stewart

Shortly after one a.m. on August 4th, 2000, fifty-year-old James John Stewart was standing on SW 6th Avenue in Portland, Oregon, when he was approached by three individuals: two men and one woman. According to witnesses, there was a brief conversation, then one of the men reeled back and punched James. The older man fell to the sidewalk and hit his head, which rendered him unconscious. The three suspects then left the scene in a 1990s-era red Toyota coupe, driving toward Broadway Street.

Police officers arrived at approximately one-eighteen a.m., at which point James was transported to the nearest hospital. He eventually succumbed to his injuries on August 16th.

All the suspects were black and in their twenties. The man who assaulted James Stewart was described as heavyset with short hair, clad in green shorts. The other man was thinner and stood about five-foot-eleven. The female was approximately five-foot-four and had long hair pulled back in a ponytail.

Neither the motive nor the identity of the attackers has been determined.
