Eddie Cruz

At one-fifteen a.m. on September 16th, 2000, police officers were called to the Overland Crest Town Homes complex off Merritt Drive in Greensboro, North Carolina, following reports of gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered the body of Eddie Cruz lying in the parking lot, dead from a single gunshot wound to the head. It was only two weeks after his thirty-sixth birthday.

Two other individuals, thirty-year-old Rosa Raza and thirty-year-old Juan Vargas Hernandez, also suffered gunshot wounds but survived their injuries. Authorities were not clear whether the three victims lived at the complex or not.

Witnesses stated that there had been two perpetrators, and they had fled the scene in a small red car. A neighbor, Josefa Vasquez, also reported that she had heard five gunshots, and upon looking out her window, saw Eddie lying on the ground and several people running into the apartment next door to hers.

The motive for the crime and the identity of the killers are still unknown.
