Eighty-two-year-old Raymond Aguirre had been married to his eighty-year-old wife Mabel for more than sixty years. The couple lived on SE Washington Street in Topeka, Kansas.
On September 19th, 2000, the Aguirres returned home and encountered an intruder in their residence, who it’s believed gained entry through a bathroom window. The perpetrator brutally beat both victims into unconsciousness, then proceeded to rob the house before fleeing the scene.
Raymond Aguirre languished in the hospital for nearly a month but eventually succumbed to his injuries. Mabel survived the attack but lost her sight in one eye.
The suspect was described as a clean-shaven black male in his late teens or early twenties, standing about five-foot-eight and weighing approximately one-hundred-sixty pounds. He had a short afro and was wearing a red sweater with a white collar.
The shocking assault on the elderly couple is still unsolved.
