Steven Craig Mayo owned and operated a business called Metro Grease Company not far from his home in Fort Lupton, Colorado. On the early morning of December 19th, 2000, law enforcement officers were called to his residence after neighbors noticed the screen door on his house was broken and the front door was ajar.
Upon entering, police discovered Steven deceased, the victim of a single gunshot wound. It isn’t clear whether anything was stolen from the home.
Authorities looked into several suspects in the case, but came up empty every time, and the investigation stalled very quickly. Very few details about the crime have been released to the public, but even after twenty-five years, detectives are hopeful that someone remembers some information that will help them determine who murdered Steven Craig Mayo and why.
