Shortly after three o’clock on the afternoon of September 28th, 2000, Myron Govan and his adult son Darius Martin were standing near a vehicle parked in front of the house of a relative they’d been visiting on North Congress Avenue in Portland, Oregon.
Suddenly, an unidentified individual approached the two men and opened fire on them before fleeing the area. When emergency services arrived, Myron was pronounced dead at the scene. His son Darius was taken to Emanuel Hospital but died from his injuries a few hours later.
Multiple witnesses saw the shooting occur and described the perpetrator as a black male in his twenties, standing between five-foot-nine and six feet tall, and weighing around one hundred ninety pounds. He was wearing gloves, and his hair was either pulled back or styled in a short afro. His possible vehicle was a Chevrolet Astro Van, two-tone silver over dark blue, model year between 1985 and 1987.
Authorities believe the gunman knew the victims but were unable to identify a suspect or a motive. The Cold Case Homicide Unit in Portland is still fielding tips, but the crime remains unsolved.
