Laraye Lewis

Laraye Lewis was a native of Portland, Oregon, where he worked as a laborer in the construction industry and volunteered at the Matt Dishman Center and Greater Solid Rock Church. He was twenty-five years old and the father of two daughters.

Shortly before seven-thirty p.m. on October 19th, 2000, Laraye was sitting with a friend on a bench outside the Caritas Plaza on North Williams Avenue when an unidentified assailant suddenly began shooting at the two men. Both Laraye and his friend ducked to avoid gunfire, but Laraye was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Laraye was reported to have been involved with using and selling drugs, which may have had some connection to his murder. The individual who killed Laraye was described by witnesses as an African American male wearing a black baseball cap and dark clothing.

Both the Cold Case Homicide Unit in Portland and Crime Stoppers of Oregon are fielding tips in the investigation.
