Essie Otten

It was very early on the morning of November 10th, 2000, and fifty-seven-year-old Essie Otten was sitting on a bus bench on the corner of D Street and Paul Street in Las Vegas, Nevada, waiting for the bus that would take her to work.

Suddenly, she was approached by an unidentified black male, who brandished a gun at her and demanded her money. A terrified Essie handed the money over, but the assailant shot her anyway.

At that point, Essie either ran behind a nearby building or the attacker dragged her there. The man then attempted to sexually assault her but fled before completing the deed. Essie died of her injuries soon afterward.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is still hopeful that this heinous and random crime will someday be solved.
