Forty-two-year-old Colin Beer had been spending the afternoon of Saturday, June 9th, 2001 drinking at the Hyde Park Pub in the Mutley district of North Hill, Plymouth, England.
According to witnesses, Colin left the pub at around six p.m., and was visibly inebriated, weaving in and out of traffic as he headed for North Hill on foot.
At one point, he reportedly bumped into the side mirror of a blue Peugeot, at which point the driver of another vehicle, a red Vauxhall Cavalier, got out and punched Colin in the face. As a result of the punch, Colin fell onto the pavement and fractured his skull. He was rushed to the hospital but died five days later.
Bystanders reported that the man who had assaulted Colin Beer was a white male, about thirty years old, clad in a white shirt and dark jeans. He was described as having a thin face, short brown hair, and a goatee.
In 2002, BBC News reported that an unnamed twenty-five-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of the crime, but no further updates have been forthcoming, and the case remains in the cold case database.
