Bill Chivers was an eighty-six-year-old retired engineer who lived in Swffryd, Wales. On September 15th, 2001, Bill had been playing bingo at the Swffryd Community Centre, as was his weekly habit. On his way home, he stopped for a pie and peas for his dinner.
Suddenly, he was attacked by an unknown assailant, who knocked him savagely to the ground, injuring his arm and pelvis, before making off with the food he’d just bought. Bill was taken to the hospital but died from complications of his injuries six weeks later, on October 29th.
Not long afterward, a fifteen-year-old boy was arrested and placed on trial for the vicious mugging. The suspect claimed he had been at his grandmother’s house at the time of the crime and was not responsible. As there was not enough evidence to convict, the teenager was acquitted in October of 2002.
Since that time, there have been no new developments in the case, and the brutal murder of the elderly pensioner remains unsolved.
