On the afternoon of Thursday, June 9th, 1966, the quiet community of Bridgend in Leeds, England, was shaken by a violent crime that claimed the life of fifty-year-old Winifred Sharp.
The robbery occurred at a post office in Bridgend, a modest neighborhood in Leeds. According to available records, three shots were fired during the heist, one of which struck and killed counter assistant Winifred Sharp. The second shot wounded the postmaster, who survived, while the third went wide. There were no customers in the post office at the time of the robbery.
The perpetrator stole £160 from the till and fled the scene. Witnesses outside in the street described the culprit as a white male in his early thirties with a thin face and dark hair that fell across his forehead. He was wearing sunglasses, a brown suede jacket, and dark jeans.
Despite efforts by law enforcement, no arrests were made, and the case remains open and unsolved to this day.
