Twenty-four-year-old David Dann, a weightlifter with a stocky build who was described by his family as a gentle giant, lived in Napier Street, Deptford, in a quiet residential area of Blackheath, south-east London. On the night of April 4th, 2000, he had visited a block of flats in Prendergast Road to meet someone.
As he exited the building accompanied by a friend, a gunman opened fire from behind. David and his companion fled in different directions, but the assailant continued shooting. Police were quickly alerted, arriving to find David gravely injured. Officers attempted resuscitation until an ambulance arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The attack appeared targeted, with the shooter approaching from the rear in what detectives described as a deliberate ambush. No motive was immediately established, and no arrests were made in the initial investigation.
The Metropolitan Police launched a murder inquiry, treating the case as a targeted shooting. Appeals for information were made through local media, but no suspects were identified. As of the latest records, the murder of David Dann remains unresolved.
