Sarah Bowdler

Sixty-eight-year-old Sarah Bowdler was originally from Scotland, but later moved to the West Midlands in England. Her husband John passed away in 1986, and afterward, Sarah began devoting most of her time to charity work, volunteering at the Spastics Society Shop in Wednesfield, Wolverhampton.

Sarah was last seen alive at around six p.m. on the evening of September 16th, 1991, and two hours later, she phoned a friend from her semi-detached home on Somers Road, Pleck, Walsall. After that, a brutal fate befell the harmless woman.

The following day, Sarah was found dead in the bedroom of her residence. She had been bound, gagged, and strangled with a ligature. There was no sign of forced entry, indicating that Sarah either knew her killer and let them in willingly, or the killer was a stranger who was able to persuade her to let them inside.

The oddest thing about the tragic case was the lack of apparent motive; nothing at all was stolen from the home, and there were no reports of sexual assault.

The investigation reached a dead end only two months after it occurred, and as of this writing, there has been no further progress toward finding Sarah Bowdler’s killer.
